A late 19th century (circa 1890) highly decorative large Japanese Meiji period shodana cabinet - ADDITIONAL IMAGES CAN BE VIEWED BELOW:
This shodana consists of a carved cornice with frieze below depicting birds, floral and foliate decoration.
This leads down to an arrangement of twelve asymmetrical cupboards, sliding doors, open shelves and drawers with panels of applied bone, mother of pearl and ivory decoration depicting figures, birds, flowers and foliage creating decorative scenes influenced by nature.
The cabinet also consists of many pierced carvings of flowers, foliage and birds both to the front and panelled sides, all supported on a shaped and carved base.
This shodana is in very good condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home.
