FS0285 A RECLAIMED ANTIQUE VICTORIAN MARBLE FIRE SURROUND

A petite and elegant, reclaimed, antique marble fire surround dating to the Victorian era. The fire surround has a traditional appearance with circle and panel detail on the crossbar and legs and the mantel has a serpentine edge. The carrara marble has a nice colour and good veining. The fire surround is in solid antique condition, with some signs of wear and damage but please note that the previous owner of the fire purchased it but did not then fit the fire and therefore it has not recently been fitted together. It appears that the right leg and the crossbar have a slightly different shape on the inner edge and the leg may have been from a different fire (please see the last picture). The back edge corners of the mantel have been cut roughly, at an angle, as we believe it was going to be chased into a wall. You could cut the back of the mantel to make it straight if desired. The fire surround has some small knocks and chips. The mantel has some staining and the fire surround has some small scratches and marks. The back of the legs and crossbar have some residue plaster. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround has an elegant period appearance and would make a very nice feature for a room.
