Frederick Richardson was an English painter, noted especially for his landscape and coastal scenes in oil and watercolours. He was talented, respected and successful and established strong ties with several areas of the UK.
He was born in Bristol, educated at Repton and trained as an artist in Paris under Carolus Duran.
He travelled extensively to paint, including Scotland, Ireland, Italy, Holland, France and Cornwall. He was an active member of the Staithes Group, and later the Newlyn school in Cornwall, and a contemporary of Laura and Harold Knight and John Singer Sargent.
He and his wife raised their family in Bristol, where he played an active part in the artistic community. He exhibited prolifically, including the Royal Academy and other major galleries. His best works appear to have been his coastal scenes and fisherfolk.
Richardson was a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours, the Institute of Painters in Watercolour, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Royal West of England Academy.
