    About this item

A superb, 18th century, French court mortar and stand. The grey marble mortar is probably of Italian origin. This sits on a nicely turned ash stand and is accompanied by a double ended, turned wood pestle. The pestle is possibly beechwood but it is quite difficult to tell as it has been stained over the years so the grain of the wood is difficult to distinguish. This would make a fabulous feature in a large kitchen.

    Date c.1780.

Condition: The stand has a number of wide splits and the pestle has some fine splits. The mortar is in very good condition. All faults can be seen in the images.

Dimensions: Stand: Height 66cm.  Diameter 25cm. Mortar: Height 20cm. Width 36.5cm. Pestle: Length 38cm. Diameter 7.5cm.

Price includes delivery within the U.K. Shipping elsewhere please enquire.
