Heritage & Craftsmanship

This elegant chandelier is attributed to Bakalowits & Söhne, the renowned Viennese lighting manufacturer founded in 1845 and celebrated for its high‑quality crystal lighting. The design features a cylindrical frame from which multiple tiers of clear crystal rods are suspended, creating a shimmering cascade of light. The combination of gold‑plated and black‑lacquered brass gives the piece a refined contrast, while the fluted arrangement of rods diffuses light beautifully.

Bakalowits produced a range of lighting in this style during the 1970s and 1980s, from chandeliers to wall sconces and flush mounts. Similar designs were also made by other respected European makers of the period.

Visual Details

The chandelier’s proportions make it suitable for both domestic and commercial interiors. The crystal rods catch and refract light, while the gold and black frame adds depth and glamour. The original Bakelite sockets remain in place, and the piece has been well cared for, with no losses to the crystal elements.

Styling Suggestions

Perfect for a dining room, entrance hall, or boutique interior, this chandelier brings instant Hollywood Regency glamour. Pair with mirrored furniture, rich textiles, or mid‑century seating for a cohesive look, or let it be the statement piece in a more minimal scheme.

Sustainable Style

Thank you for considering vintage lighting; choosing a set like this preserves mid‑century craftsmanship and keeps such items in circulation thus reducing the demand for newly manufactured pieces making it both an aesthetic and environmental decision.   Without the demand for restoration and conservation, the master‑craftsmen capable of such traditional skills alive will become increasingly rare.
