    About this item

This is a rare Scandinavian Viking silver and enamel mount, dating to the 10th - 11th century A.D. It is intact with all three rivets and blue enamel. The design is reminiscent of an interlaced Jörmungandr serpent, whom is depicted beneath the waves and surrounding the earth. The back of the mount retains traces of the copper-alloy sheet (which this mount was originally attached). This could have been the sheet covering on a book or scabbard. A nice object worthy of further study and research.
