About this item
An unusual solid bronze desk weight depicting the Scottish poet Robert Burns (1759-1796). It is probably a souvenir piece, possibly produced to mark the centenary of Burns' death in 1896. It bears a similarity to but is not identical to statues of Burns in Dumfries and Dundee, so it may have been produced around the time that these were unveiled in the early 1880s. The weight has fine detailing to the surface and an appealing aged patina. The condition is good with a little wear commensurate with its age.
