About this item
This cushion is made from kuba cloth. This textile is made by the Shoowa ethnic group in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Its is beaten raphia palm that is then woven into the cloth and decorated with mineral dye, embroidery, cowrie shells, applique or as in example a cut pile effect or faux velvet. This kuba cloth dates to the late C20. Its is backed with a vintage hemp that has been dyed a rust colour similar to the diamonds on the front. It has a zip fastener and feather pad.
