An excellent and expressive cityscape composition, painted in oil onto canvas and dated 1952.
In this semi-abstract composition, the artist has reconstructed a street scene with a row of colourful buildings down to blocks of contrasting colours using an array of rich and muted colours. Expressive and painterly brushstrokes have been confidently applied to the canvas, creating areas of impasto where the paint stands proud from the surface. The artist has also wonderfully layered contrasting colours to reveal depth and interest to this striking painting.
This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary black and gilt frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
