Available for sale from Big Sky Fine Art in the English county of Dorset, this original oil painting is by the Cornish artist Stanley Gardiner and dates from the 1930s. 
The painting is presented and supplied in a sympathetic contemporary frame (which is shown in these photographs), mounted using conservation materials and behind non-reflective Artglass AR 70™glass.
The painted surface has benefitted from a light clean which was performed on our instruction, supervision and approval. 
This vintage painting is in very good condition. It wants for nothing and is supplied ready to hang and display.

Stanley Gardiner was born in Reading and studied art at Reading University, then at Art College in Arbroath. After a period working in America, he returned to England to serve during World War 1. He and his wife moved to Lamorna in Cornwall in 1922, where he became a successful artist and part of the famous Lamorna artists group there. He exhibited widely and was greatly liked and respected. He became the last of the professional Lamorna artists and carried on the tradition of plein air painting. His work is stylish and much sought after.

This original oil on board painting by Lamorna artist Stanley Gardiner depicts tide pools on Porthcurno Beach in Cornwall. Porthcurno beach is flanked by rugged cliffs, has gorgeous white sands and is lapped by turquoise waves. It is known as a place of particular beauty. It was once famous for being the British connection of the world’s very first international telegraph cable. Nowadays it is also the backdrop of the iconic Minack Theatre. 

The painting focuses on the pools of sea-water forming in the undulations of the pale sand, with the huge cliffs rising up all around, almost like the columns of a cathedral. The very top section of the painting shows the edge of the sea, with its characteristic turquoise shades. This is all about structure and texture, movement and light. It is a very atmospheric, timeless and stylised piece.
