About this item

Fine Oil Painting on Canvas ‘Maritime Sea Battle’.
Large Mid-20th-Century Naval Battle Scene - in Gilt Frame.
Depicting a dramatic ‘Age of Sail’ naval engagement, with heavily rigged sailing warships manoeuvring through turbulent seas, gunfire, smoke and wreckage. Executed in a maritime style with atmospheric sky and dramatic tonal contrasts. Housed in an impressive carved and gilded frame. The scene appears to reference a historic naval engagement, possibly Trafalgar (1805) or maybe the Glorious First June (1794).
