Mid-Century Modernist "The Fishing Village" Beach Scene With Boats, Landscape Oil Painting

An outstanding modernist style painting depicting a fishing village, dated 1955.

In the background, rows of huts line the ocean front. In the foreground, fishing nets are placed over a wooden support, hanging up to dry by the sand.

Muted tones of moss green, burnt sienna and blue-grey make up the palette, giving it a really lovely earthy feel, and a typical mid century vibe. The artist has skilfully managed to capture the malleable and translucent nature of the nets, but has retained a modernist ethos through the use of faceted brushstrokes and the flattening of space.

The painting is housed in a stunning olive green frame with visible wood grain and a gilt lining. The colour of the frame complements and enhances the green in the painting.

Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
