About this item
A beautiful oil on canvas dated 1887 and signed by the artist Roderick Dempster Mackenzie - 1865-1941.
Born in London, his family emigrated to Mobile county, Alabama,USA in 1872. Trained at the Museum of fine arts school in Boston, Massachusetts 1884-1886. During his lifetime he was considered one of Alabama's most important artists. This early work was most likely painted in Alabama where Loquats {a native of China) are a crop.
The artist intended the painting to hang landscape fashion but it works equally well in portrait position. Reframed by us. Condition is very good.
In later life he achieved fame in Indian society and accepted commissions from Royalty.
Size quoted includes frame.
Price includes mainland UK p&p.
