    About this item

British Steam Warship HMS Condor firing a broadside

    Unknown artist

This is an interesting oil on canvas of what appears to be an engagement in 1882 during the Bombardment of Alexandria in Egypt, we believe this to be an early British steam warship firing on an enemy building on the shore. Unfortunately not signed.

The British artist Charles Edward Dixon painted a similar scene as an illustration for a print that was published in 1901.

The painting has some craquelure but this seems stable.
