    Enchanting portrait of The Madonna painted on the reverse side on glass a technique the term used to refer to the art of cold painting and gilding on the back of the glass is Verre églomisé, named after the French decorator Jean-Baptiste Glomy (1711–86), who framed prints using glass that had been reverse-painted. In German, it is known as Hinterglasmalerei.

    It is in it's original gilded swept frame.


    Condition : Slight rubbing to tiny areas of paint. Some cracking to frame, and sections that are shown missing have now been repaired but all intact and not loose. The backboards have also been correctly fitted. The white marks in the photographs are reflections not marks in the paintwork. Now overall in a good condition ready to hang.
