Victorian Oil Painting - Portrait of a Lady with Wringlets
Victorian Oil Painting on Board. This is an absolutely charming portrait of a young lady. It dates to about 1840. Sat under a tree, with her bonnet laid out beside her and with a backdrop of sea and sky, the composition has been thoughtfully considered, - and painted in exquisite detail.
The Artist board bears the stamp of the supplier Warring and Dimes Bloomsbury. This company only existed as a partnership for a few years until 1842 when it was dissolved, so this gives a good approximation of the age of the painting. The hand written note on the back claims the sitter was a lady named Mrs Twiss, nee Miss Patmore.
Excellent condition throughout. Period simulated tortoiseshell frame and gilt slip.
