About this item
Atmospheric Victorian maritime oil painting depicting a group of steamships approaching harbour, with a tugboat in the foreground guiding the vessels across gently moving water
Dark smoke rises from the funnels of the ships, contrasting with the soft pastel tones of the sky and distant shoreline
The composition captures the drama of early steamship travel, likely dating to the late
19th or early 20th century when large passenger and cargo steamers dominated international shipping routes
