FS0318 ELEGANT RECLAIMED PAINTED CAST IRON FIRE SURROUND OAK MANTEL

A large and elegant, reclaimed, painted cast iron fire surround dating to the early 20th Century. The fire surround has a simple and classic design with a rope twist border. The cast iron has been painted white. The original mantel was damaged and has been replaced with an oak mantel that has been sprayed white with a heat resistant radiator paint. On the top of the mantel the paint has gone into the grain giving a very attractive effect highlighting the lovely pattern of the wood grain. There are two fixing lugs, one on either side, under the mantel for fixings to attach the surround to the wall. The bottom of the feet each have a small fixing tab. The back of the fire surround has a registered design dating number, RD605999, dating it to 1912.

The surround is in good antique condition with some signs of age and wear, as expected of reclaimed items. The iron has some casting marks and pitting. There are some small knocks. The oak mantel has some splits (especially to the left hand side when looking at the surround) and knocks but it is stable. The back of the surround has surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround has an elegant period appearance that would suit many interiors and it would finish a fireplace nicely.
