FS0327 AN ELEGANT RECLAIMED ART NOUVEAU CAST IRON FIRE SURROUND

An elegant and pretty reclaimed Art Nouveau cast iron fire surround. The surround is of a good size, ideal for a living or dining room and has a very nice design, typical of the era, with flowers and leaves in the Art Nouveau style along the crossbar. In each corner of the crossbar are torch and flame designs. The legs have bow detailing and studs. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a good finish. The fire surround has a lug on each side, under the mantel, for fixings to attach the surround to the wall. The back of the surround has a registered design number, RD 376999, dating it to 1901. 

The fire surround is in good antique condition with some signs of age and some repaired damage. The right hand side, under the fixing lug, had some damage. The break has had a quality repair carried out, using a strengthening plate on the back and putty that has been coloured black on the side of the fire surround. The crack is now faintly seen. Please see the last two pictures for details of the break. The iron has some casting marks and pitting. The back of the fire surround has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is a very elegant piece and a lovely example of Art Nouveau design, ideal for adding period character to a fireplace.
