About this item
A fine and richly decorated Ridgway porcelain cream jug of "Royal" shape with fluted walls and shaped rim and generous Old English type raised handle. Detailed acanthus leaf moulding around the spout front. Ornately decorated with a deep mazarine blue over painted in gilt with a bold geometric pattern and reserving small triangular sections with heavy gilt frames and painted in enamel with garden flowers. A gilt grape vine decorates the spout and a wide gilt stylised frieze runs inside the rim, thick gilt bands either side of the rim and foot and the handle is fully gilded. Marked with pattern number 2/1215, c.1820-1825.
A very generous size, perfectly practical for use for milk or cream and it could be easily used as a sauceboat also.
It measures 16.5cm (6 1/2") long, 9.7cm (3 7/8") high to the handle and 10.2cm (4") wide. It holds up to the lower edge of the inner frieze 200ml / 7 fluid ounces (320ml/11fl.oz to the brim).
In excellent condition with no damage, repairs or restoration. There are two short firing lines down the spout and another tiny one on the top edge of the handle. Very minor handling wear.
