    About this item

A fantastic, reclaimed, Victorian tiled cast iron combination fire. The fire is very ornate and has a lovely domed smoke hood with leaf designs and there is reeded and waved line detail surrounding the hood. The mantel has shaped front edges and moulded detail. The fire has shaped front bars and an ashpan cover. The fire has a smoke flap but please be aware this is a replacement of the period and is not original to this fire. The fire has been fitted with 10 yellow and green Art Nouveau tiles, 5 on each side of the fire opening, with a pretty flower design that runs down each side. PLEASE NOTE: The tiles are not currently fixed in place. We can fix the tiles using plaster of paris, or fix tiles of your choice (THAT HAVE BEEN AGREED FIRST as not all tiles will fit), included in the price. If you would like the fire without tiles we will reduce the fire cost by £100. Please contact us to discuss your requirements before purchase. The back of the fire has a registered design dating number, RD238679, dating the fire to 1894.

The fire insert is in solid antique condition with some signs of age and wear, as expected. The iron has some knocks, pitting and casting marks. The back of the insert has surface rust. One bottom tile has several repaired breaks and the other bottom tile has one repaired break. The tiles are repaired but the cracks can be seen. The tiles have crazing to the glaze and some staining. There are some small chips to the tile edges. The back of the fire insert has some surface rust as expected. The fire brick has some knocks and there is a gap between the grill and the bottom of the brick and also at the top of the brick. The ashpan cover has a small chip in it on one side.  The right hand fixing lug has been broken and has been replaced with a metal fixing tab. The back of the mantel has some small knocks. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire has a lovely period appearance and it would make a fantastic addition to a fireplace.
