    About this item

A fantastic, reclaimed, Victorian tiled cast iron combination fire made by Biclam and likely to date to C.1890s. The fire is very ornate and has a lovely domed smoke hood with leaf designs and there is reeded and waved line detail surrounding the hood. The crossbar has a circle in the centre with flowers and there are panels on either side that run down the legs, featuring urns, flowers, swags and acorns. The fire retains its shaped front bars and has a grill. The fire has a smoke flap with diamond detailing. The fire has been fitted with 10 attractive green tiles, 5 on each side of the fire opening. PLEASE NOTE: The tiles are not currently fixed in place. We can fix the tiles using plaster of paris, or fix tiles of your choice (THAT HAVE BEEN AGREED FIRST as not all tiles will fit), included in the price. If you would like the fire without tiles we will reduce the fire cost by £50. Please contact us to discuss your requirements before purchase.

The fire insert is in solid antique condition with some signs of age and some repairs, as expected of reclaimed items and it is therefore now suitable for occasional use. The fire back has some large cracks that have been strengthened using bolts and metal plates and therefore under heat it will hold with occasional use. The fire brick has a large crack and some discolouration but it is stable within the fire. The iron has some casting marks and pitting, especially to the mantel top. The tiles have some small chips and knocks and the tile glaze has crazing. The smoke flap and top plate are not a tight fit and some slight gaps can be seen, but this will not be particularly noticeable when fitted into the cavity. The back of the fire has surface rust. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire has a lovely period appearance and it would make a fantastic addition to a fireplace.
