    About this item

A stunning Edwardian richly patinated and beautifully figured mahogany desk in the manner of Edward and Roberts, London.  This fabulous piece is of exceptional quality, stunningly carved with striking crossbanded detail and delicate line inlay throughout.  The shaped and moulded desk top of rectangular form is fitted with a gorgeous green embossed tooled leather writing skiver surface above frieze with one central long drawer flanked with two short drawers, above an arrangement of two sets of three deep graduated drawers, all beautifully crossbanded and fitted with decorative finely cast brass swan neck handles and escutcheons, terminating on elegantly tapering sabre leg.

    Edward & Roberts

Edward and Roberts were founded in 1845, and had premises at 21 Wardour Street London.  By 1892 they occupied more than a dozen buildings in Wardour Street, where they continued to trade until the end of the century.  They became one of the leading London cabinet makers and retailers working in a variety of styles, both modern and revivalist.  Edward and Roberts specialized in marquetry, inlay and ormolu.
