About this item
This is an extremely rare Renaissance gold and diamond finger ring, dating to the late 15th to the early 16th century. The ring is set with its original point-cut diamond in a quatrefoil mount, the sides of which are decorated with an olive-sprig design. The shoulders are shaped like fleurs, possibly relating to France, Florence or the Virgin Mary. This ring is a perfect example of an early diamond ring (also known as a writing ring due to the ability to write on the glass with the point of the diamond). It is in excellent and wearable condition, of the type used as a fashionable engagement/betrothal ring of the period!
