    About this item

This watch is sold in our Watches for restoration section and does not come with a warranty. If you are looking for watch with a full warranty, please go to our Stock page or ask for assistance to find what you are looking for.

Most of the watches in my “Watches for restoration section” were purchased with a view to clean and service them and list them in my main section. However, when I inspect a watch if I find one or two faults then I list them here and this watch is one of those examples

This watch has a good spring but the balance is sticking and doesn’t swing freely. The watch is fully wound and not working

This is a hard to find example of THE BANK pocket watch by Benson. The quality is obvious the moment you pick the watch up as although it is a heavy piece it is a refined pocket watch

Movement – the gilt ¾ plate movement has a lever escapement with a compensated balance and is jewelled. The movement is signed “The Bank, Best London Make, Y 6902, J W Benson, Ludgate Hill, London”. The movement is in 95% mint condition

Case – the movement comes in a 9K gold J W Benson half hunter case, which has a hinged inner, back and front cover. The case is stamped JWB and numbered 3397. Clear hallmarks for London 1934

The front cover opens crisply to 90 degrees when you press the winder in.

The case has a monogram on the back cover. The rest of the case has a smooth plain finish. The case is in 95% mint condition – one tiny ding on the edge

Dial – the white enamel dial has a full set of blue steel hands. The dial is signed “J W Benson, London”. The dial is in 100% mint condition

The watch has a mineral glass over the dial and a mineral one in the cover

The watch measures 50mm wide x 15mm deep

The watch is stem wound / pin set
