    About this item

This watch is sold in our Watches for restoration section and does not come with a warranty. If you are looking for watch with a full warranty, please go to our Stock page or ask for assistance to find what you are looking for.

Most of the watches in my “Watches for restoration section” were purchased with a view to clean and service them and list them in my main section. However, when I inspect a watch if I find one or two faults then I list them here and this watch is one of those examples

This watch has a broken spring. The winder will continuously wind with no power going to the balance. The glass also needs replacing

The watch has hallmarks for London 1899

This is a good example of an English made J W Benson pocket watch with an English movement and case and is worthy of restoration.

Movement – the gilt ¾ plate movement has an adjusted. The movement is signed “The Keyless Ludgate Watch, JW Benson, Patent, No 4658, Best London Make, By Warrant to the Queen, Ludgate Hill, London” # 820222. The movement is in 95% mint condition – superb visual condition but not working.

Case – the movement comes in a top quality English silver half Hunter case where the front cover pops open when you press the winder in. The case has makers marks for JWB”. The case has a smooth plain finish with a dark blue enamel chapter ring.

The case has a gold bow

The case is in 85% mint condition – light marks and loss of enamel

Dial – the white enamel dial has a full set of blue steel hands and is signed “J W Benson, London”. The dial is in 99% mint condition.

The watch has a yellow plastic glass over the dial and a smaller glass in the front cover

The watch is stem wound / pin set

The watch measures 51mm wide x 16mm deep
