    About this item

A very good example of a late 18thc mahogany turned mortar with original pestle....it stands on a raised base and has boldly turned ribbed decoration with incised triple ring pattern to the body....it also retains the original pestle, which is so pleasing as many have unfortunately lost the pestle....the mortar is in very good condition and you can see from the pictures some faint hairline cracks, which probably happened when it was turned, as they are only on the surface of the solid base and not in the hollow body....plus they were closed up a long time ago and now just enhance the piece....wonderful colour and patination.

    English. C1770-90.
