Garret Hurst Sculpture
London, United Kingdom
Garret and Hurst is a family-run company that has specialised in 19th century sculpture since 1992. The company was founded by Margaret Cowley and Wendy Grellman who decided to concentrate exclusively on their first love - sculpture - after some years of trading as general antique dealers. They were joined by Margaret's son, Peter, in 2003.
Garret and Hurst is based in Sussex and exhibits at major Fine Art and Antiques fairs throughout the UK, including the BADA and LAPADA fairs.
Garret & Hurst pride themselves on reflecting the art of 19th-century sculpture through their acquisition of signed figurative and animalier pieces of the highest quality by master sculptors who exhibited at the Paris Salons. The distinction between high-quality 19th-century casts and the later casts and imitations—often of inferior quality—that make up much of 20th-century production makes it essential to discriminate between the two. This is the role that Garret & Hurst fulfils, and as leading specialists in the field, they are committed to promoting greater knowledge of and interest in sculpture from this fascinating period.
