Gun and a pioneer of Western historical realism in Russian painting. Academician of historical painting of the Imperial Academy of Arts since 1855. From among the military, of Polish origin. He was educated within the walls of the Russian Academy of Arts, in the class of Bryulov, spent 2 years in Düsseldorf, 7 years in Paris, lived in Rome for the last years.
