A rare 19th century hand painted, solid wood Mongolian chest. The front features a beautiful floral medallion surrounded by five bats, symbolizing good fortune and beauty. The four corners has peonies and pomegranates, symbolizing prosperity and family continuity. The whole auspicious scene is framed with longevity motifs and more peonies and pomegranates. A pair of dragons chasing fire pearl bordered by longevity scrolls sit above the main image with commanding presence of power. The colors of this chest are absolutely beautiful, so splendid and soft. Chest has a drawers and doors on both sides with interior shelves for ample storage. Antique Mongolian chests are very rare to come by due to the nomadic life style of the Mongolian people.
