This is an antique coffer, a late 17th century, English oak, joined chest. A Charles II trunk. Substantial oak chest displaying rich, dark colour. Pegged joint construction with grain interest throughout. Triple panel chest with a desirable aged patina.
Reciprocating carved guilloche to the front rails, stiles and muntins. Moulded detail to the plain field panels. Shield, iron lock escutcheon, key absent.
Slab top over three-panel front and back, two-panel ends. Raised on extended stiles to useful height of 69cm (27.25 inches). Hinged lid lifts, offering voluminous storage within and featuring a candle box.
A super antique coffer from the late 17th century. Solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready for the home.
