This stunning large rosewood desk is of outstanding quality and was made in the Louis XV style.
It has a beautiful rich colour and all the leaf and scroll carvings to the rounded corners top and bottom are crisp and original.
As with many good quality French desks it has a handy 'central locking system' for all the drawers.
This enables the central drawer to lock all other drawers at the same time with one key.
Recently been restored, using traditional methods, it has a new black hide writing surface with gilt and blind tooling.
The writing top has a cross band of king wood and a 'bulls nose' moulded edge with rounded corners.
Useful extending slides to both sides offer extra surface space and have matching leather surfaces.
The desk is panelled all round with attractive book matched veneers.
The desk has a slight inverted break-front to both front and back with three drawers to the top front.
The pedestals are fitted with four drawers and all drawers have panelled fronts and original rococo brass handles.
The pedestals stand on finely carved short cabriole legs and have carved scrolling borders.
The right hand pedestal has a double drawer which has a document safe with a sliding locking top with key. (see photo)
