Paired sculptures “Tamers of horses” or "Marly Horses" The marble sculpture group “Tamers of horses” was created in 1740-1745. Guillaume Cousteau Sr. (Guillaume Coustou I, 1677-1746) - a famous French sculptor of the first half of the XVIII century., who worked on the decoration of the palaces and parks of Versailles, Marly, Tuileries and Trianon. The sculptures were ordered by Louis XV of Carrara marble to decorate the Marly Castle terrace in a suburb of Paris. Satisfied with the tense official images, the royal administration ordered the sculptor figures of nude youths holding back their horses. Author: Signature.
