VERY EARLY CHILDS TIN RATTLE and WHISTLE  c 1860

This fabulous very old tin rattle and whistle is superb.  During the mid 1800's these were a common rattle and whistle toy.  4 1/8" long x 1 " wide

The rattle is embellished with a Victorian Roman Head design on either side of the barrel drum. Old gold paint complements the center of the barrel.  The rattle still rings well with the original seeds or pellets inside.   A remarkable piece of American history ! 

This example has survived in good condition with some flaking of the gold and bending of the stem per photos.
