‘La Vague’ by Raymond Guerbe*
Item Description
Striking Art Deco fonte d’art figure of a nude girl about to jump over an approaching wave.
Naturalistically modelled, she’s captured in a delightful pose with her hands clenched and arms raised as the wave breaks in front of her.
With a double patination of olive green incorporating brownish highlights and signed R. Guerbe (one of the pseudonyms used by Pierre Le Faguays). This little sculpture was cast at the Le Verrier foundry in Paris and dates from 1925-30.
Raymonde Guerbe (Andrée Guerval) 1894 - 1995
Using both her real name and the pseudonym Guerval, Raymonde Guerbe was a multi-faceted artist who worked in many media, including bronze, ceramics and terracotta (she was also a painter).
Her husband was the sculptor Pierre Le Faguays and she also modelled for some of his works. Many of her sculptures were edited by Les Neveux de J. Lehmann, Etling, Susse Frères and Max Le Verrier.
