This is a most interesting medieval silver ring, dating to the 13th - 15th century. It is of a stirrup shape, but the point is curled to form a pluck. The type of ring is usually classed as an 'Archers' ring, but the size and material (silver) would make this unlikely, rather more suited for playing a stringed instrument. In modern times we have a 'pluck' for playing guitar and so it would seem plausible that such 'Archers' rings were infact used by musicians or minstrels when playing instruments such as the lute, gittern, or harp. This would account for the wear to the engraved decoration on the face. It is a nice original medieval ring in good wearable condition.
