This is an ancient Roman silver Siliqua of Emperor Valentinianus II dating to 375 - 392 AD.
Obverse: D N VALENTINIANVS IVN P F AVG, "Our Lord Valentinian the young pious fortunate august" pearl-diademed draped and cuirassed bust facing right
Reverse: VICTORIA AVGGG, "to the Victory of our Augusts (Emperors)" Victory advancing left with wreath and branch.
This coin was minted at Aquileia (Northern Italy), mintmark AQPS. It had travelled across the English Channel, being buried in the Thruxton Hoard. This coin was purchased directly from the finder after being disclaimed by the British Museum.
