Description
Unusual pair of vintage Pilkington tiles dating from the 1960’s, the first in the form of a trivet with a hand painted, geometric floral design in blue and turquoise colours and the second, a hand painted industrial landscape of factories in Bolton with the date 1966.
The trivet is marked ‘PILKINGTON ENGLAND’ with circular stamps marked ‘A’ and ‘69’. The A monogram dates the piece to 1966.
The Bolton commemorative tile (unsure what the anniversary relates to) is also marked ‘PILKINGTON ENGLAND’ with circular stamps marked ‘A’ and ‘68’ with the A monogram again dating the piece to 1966 which ties in with the date on the front surface. The tile is hand signed in ink by the artist Monica Goddard dated July 1966. A nice piece of relatively recent social history.
Condition Report
Very good – some tiny frits on the trivet (barely noticeable) with one of the 4 cork feet perished (easily replaced). Crazing to the commemorative tile but otherwise in great condition.
