This is an ancient Roman silver intaglio ring, dating to the 1st - 2nd century A.D. It is set with its original carnelian gemstone, simply cut with an image of a victorious hunter. The figure is depicted in a striding posture, carrying the quarry over the shoulder with a trusty dog leaping at their feet.
The ring is in excavated condition, as such has been buried in the ground. It has not been cleaned but is certainly made of solid silver. The gem is well set with no movement, thus suitable to be worn again today with care.
