About this item
A three part, hinged pewter ice cream mould in the shape of a pineapple. All three parts are marked “L G” and they are also marked with the pattern number “1838”. These are the marks of the French company Letang who, in the 19th century, were one of the leading French manufacturers of metalware for the kitchen. It dates from c.1870. The three parts are held together by brass pins which are all replacements. The pineapple is very naturalistically modelled, with excellent detail, and it would turn out well. At some time one of the hinges has broken and this has a historic repair which can be seen in one of the images. Otherwise the mould is in good condition. The interior is still in usable condition and the exterior has a lovely, dark patina.
