St. Augustine Ware ~ England ~ c.1900
This is a colorful hand painted transferware plate, c. 1900, from the genre of rabbit ware plates that have become very popular.
Measuring a full 10“ in diameter, the plate is decorated with rich chocolate brown transfer print which was then hand painted in a brilliant green, yellow, brick red and brown, depicting a pair rabbits, one jumping out of the rabbit hole or warren. A frog soak up the sun in the English countryside.
The plate recites the amusing rhyme, " WITHIN THIS HIVE WE’RE ALL ALIVE. GOOD LIQUORSMAKE US FUNNY; IF YOU ARE DRY, STEP IN AND TRY THE FLAVOUR OF OUR HONEY “
Never Used. The plate is in excellent condition. There are no chips, cracks, utensil marks or repairs.
