Zhuang cushion with tassels
This cushion is made from a vintage Zhuang wedding blanket. The textile dates to before the 1950s and is handwoven in cotton and silk. Most of the silk still has a good shine to it, but there are losses on the purple due to dye rot which is an indicator of age and typical of the purple dye used at the time.
The other colours are magenta, jade, and light and dark pinks making it quite striking.
I've backed the cushion with another vintage minority textile. This is a white handwoven cotton with a blue pin stripe.
There are handmade tassels at the corners and it has a zip fastener and feather pad.
