    About this item

A very impressive and substantial, reclaimed, oak plank front door and wide frame. The door is very large and heavy and well made with thick oak planks and a ledge and brace construction. The frame is wide and has a sidelight panel on each side, for glazing and there are planked panels below. The front face has oak cover strips with iron studs. The door retains its striking, Gothic style, door furniture which is a fantastic feature. The front face has a large and handsome lions head door knocker, two Gothic iron straps on the front, four strap hinges on the back, several locks and a cast iron grill with an opening panel on the internal face. The panel with grill will need to be glazed. We can glaze the panel and the sidelights for an extra charge. Please contact us to discuss your requirements and for a quote. The oak has a lovely grain and has a varnished finish. The varnish does have fading and scratches and purchaser may wish to sand and re-finish the door to suit. The frame has four pins for the hook and band hinges.

The door is in good solid condition with character signs of age and wear, as expected of reclaimed items. The oak door and frame have some scratches, knocks and marks. The sill has a large crack and therefore it is best to replace it. Please contact us if you would like advice or a quote to replace the sill. The cover strip near the sill has a split. The frame has some knocks and chips and some splits but the frame is solid and stable. The grill has some surface rust and the door furniture has some tarnish and surface rust. The base of the frame has some wire left from previous use. The varnish has some fading. Please see pictures for condition details. The door is of a very substantial size, has a very handsome period appearance and has the addition of fantastic door furniture making it an ideal feature for a period / country home.
