About this item
This is an ancient Roman gold Aureus, of Emperor Trajan, minted at Rome in 100 AD.
Obverse: IMP CAES NERVA TRAIAN AVG GERM "Supreme commander (Imperator), Caesar, Nerva Trajan, emperor (Augustus), conqueror of the Germans." Bust of Trajan, laureate right.
Reverse: PM TRP COS III P P, "High priest, holder of tribunician power, consul for the third time, father of the nation" Fortuna standing left, holding rudder and cornucopia.
It is a nice and original coin, although the gold is soft and a bit bag worn from being carried in a Roman leather pouch (purse) and being knocked by bronze and silver coins. It has been reduced due to its condition and would make a nice addition to a collector's collection.
