    About this item

This is an ancient Roman AE Dupondius, of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, minted at Rome in 177 AD

Obverse:  M ANTONINVS AVG TR P XXVIII, "Marcus [Aurelius] Antoninus emperor (Augustus), holder of tribunician power for the 28th time" Head of Marcus Aurelius, radiate, right.

Reverse:  IMP VII COS III / S C, "Supreme commander (Imperator) for the seventh time, consul for the third time. Decree of the senate." Jupiter, naked to waist, seated left on throne, holding Victory, standing left and offering crown, on extended right hand, and holding long sceptre in left hand.
