    This is an ancient Roman silver denarius, of emperor Septimius Severus, minted at Emesa between 194 - 195 AD. 

    Obverse:  IMP CAES SEP SEV PERT AVG COS II "Supreme commander (Imperator), Caesar, Lucius Septimius Severus Pertinax, emperor (Augustus), consul for the second time." Head of Septimius Severus, laureate, right.

    Reverse: FORTVN REDVC, "Fortune returns" Fortuna, draped, seated left on low seat, holding rudder set on globe in right hand and cornucopiae in left hand.

    A nice example toned and in VF+ condition.
