About this item
A superb tinplate sign for Borax extract of soap, for washing everything, with great patina and ageing. C1910
Borax was a very useful solution in the 19th century home. It could be used to remove stains and dirt from clothes, to remove grease and to keep down mould. It was also used for cleaning windows, mirrors and tiles.
Borax Extract of Soap was manufactured by The Patent Borax Company of England which had manufacturing plants in Birmingham and London. There is some evidence from old newspaper ads that Borax Extract of Soap was for at least a short period of time around the turn of the century exported to and sold in the United States.
A great piece for the home or as part of a collection.
