An unusual miniature parianware portrait bust of Lord Louis Mountbatten (1900-1979). The back depicting the 'Burma Star' WWII, military campaign medal. Marked 'Poole England' to the base.
Mountbatten had been Supreme Allied Commander, South East Asia Command and oversaw the recapture of Burma and Singapore from the Japanese. He was the first Patron of the 'Burma Star Association' and held this position until his his assassination by the I.R.A. Probably issued by Poole Pottery as a memorial to the sitter following his murder.
