About this item
A large, Wedgwood, dark blue jasper dip, cabinet plate. This is marked “WEDGWOOD ENGLAND” and it dates from c.1900. It is also impressed with a latter Y which could be a workman’ mark. The border of the plate is decorated, in white relief, with eight different classical subjects which all include cherubs or putti, and these are divided by anthemion. To the centre is a very good quality relief depicting Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine, treating a patient. The jasper dip is a very good, rich shade of blue and the plate is in excellent condition.
