About this item
A Wedgwood basalt teapot with raised enamel and gilt decoration. This style of decoration was copied from the Chinese designs and Wedgwood named his “Capriware”. He introduced this type of decoration in 1815. This piece is marked “WEDGWOOD” and it dates from c.1820. The polychrome enamel decoration is very fine and the colours are still very bright. There are three very tiny chips to the inner rim of the teapot, which are barely noticeable. Also, since taking the photos, the lid has been damaged and now has a crack around the finial which is only visible on the interior. The price has been reduced accordingly.
